The Diet has agreed to a motion to centralize foreign policy and warfare by having all member states submit to a direct vassalage under the Emperor.

The emperor of the Holy Roman Empire:

  • becomes the Flag of Holy Roman Empire Holy Roman Empire.
  • gets the modifier “Rome Reborn” for the rest of the campaign with the following effects:
    • Prestige.png +1 yearly prestige,
    • National tax modifier.png +5% national tax modifier.
  • becomes an Empire rank empire.
  • gains Administrative power.png250 administrative power.

Every province that:

  • is part of the Holy Roman Empire
  • is owned by this country or its neighbours

becomes a core province of this country.
Every prince that has at least 1 city:

The Holy Roman Empire is dismantled.

Msg event.pngThe Shadow Kingdom

While the Kingdom of Italy is still formally part of the Holy Roman Empire it has in many ways turned into a 'Shadow Kingdom', with the Italian states acting independently of the Emperor. The failure of successive Emperors to restore Imperial authority in the region has also left large areas under the control of states that outright reject Imperial Authority.
By now the question for many Italian states is why they should allow a German Emperor any authority over their lands.

 
Trigger conditions

The year is at least 1490, but before 1550.
The country:

  • At least 1 province of the areas Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, Piedmont or Lombardy or Urbino (2977), Ancona (119), Umbria (2976), Verona (108), Treviso (1774), Friuli (111) or Roma (118) is not part of the HRE.
  • This event has not yet occurred.
  • The Emperor of the HRE has not enacted the decision ‘Rein in Northern Italy’.

  • has a Latin primary culture or has its capital in Italy.

The AI will never choose this option. From now on, an Italian non-emperor prince of the empire with its capital in Italy will get the Submission to the Emperor triggered modifier.

Msg event.pngThe Kingdom of Italy and the Empire

For years now Imperial Authority over the Kingdom of Italy has been waning. Successive Emperors have failed to impose their will on the Italian states and large areas that are formally part of the Empire have been lost to Venice and the Papal States who reject the Empire's right to them.
Unless Northern Italy is firmly brought back into the Empire the states there may slip out of Imperial control forever.

 
Trigger conditions

The year is at least 1440, but before 1550.
The country:

  • is a member of the Holy Roman Empire or the emperor of the HRE.
  • did not have this event before.
  • The event ‘The Shadow Kingdom’ has not yet occurred.
  • The Emperor of the HRE has not enacted the decision ‘Rein in Northern Italy’.
  • If the country is AI-controlled then it has to be the emperor of the HRE.

  • is a member of the HRE
