Monthly events[edit]

Msg event.pngThe Revolution is here

The growing revolutionary activity in our country has caused the collapse of the regime. The revolutionary masses stormed a major prison in our capital and this sent shockwaves throughout the government. The offer to form a new, slightly more constitutional, monarchy was initially accepted, but then our old corrupt monarch just couldn't quite resist the urge to try and bring the good old days back. We were left with no choice but to limit the old King's ability to influence the government by removing his head. Although diehard monarchists were convinced that the King would soon grow another one, this was not the case. Now a purely temporary committee of public safety has been appointed, which includes the leaders of the initial revolution and an over-ambitious general. Our regime's future of liberty and equality at home would be bright but we seem to have annoyed every crowned head of Europe. Even now we hear reports that they are preparing for war against us, so we must now ...

Strategy[edit]

Becoming the revolution target[edit]

The easiest way to trigger the revolution in order to become the revolution target is to trucebreak and take 25 loans in December 1749 while also dropping your prestige to negative. You will need sufficient administrative points to increase stability back up to 0 in the likely scenario where internal conflicts disaster has not triggered yet and you do not have 100% religious unity. Otherwise, your empire may fall prey to internal conflicts instead of becoming the birthplace of the revolution. It is recommended that you have the theologian adviser to limit the spawning of rebels during this period. It is also helpful to ensure your armies are spread out across your empire to handle rebels wherever they may spawn.

The revolution will begin 50 months later if you managed to keep your war exhaustion above 5 in March 1755. Keep in mind that the revolution will end if there are no active rebellions If you have opted to boost stability to 1. You should never boost stability over 2 as the final event will grant you 1 stability. Your empire will switch to a revolutionary republic as soon as rebels control the capital. Thankfully, the rebels occupying your capital are not required to be of the revolutionary variant. The easiest way of getting your capital sieged by rebels is to exploit a disloyal estate. Grant all provinces neighboring your capital to a disloyal estate one year before the revolution begins. By simply revoking the provinces from the estates you will spawn a number of rebels near your capital. In addition, you should scrap any surrounding forts and reduce the fort in your capital to a level 3 fort. Consequently, the rebels will be compelled to siege your capital after having occupied the province in which they spawned. This process should take less than a year. Congratulations, you are now the revolutionary target and a revolutionary republic.

Being the revolution target[edit]

Being the revolutionary target grants the following static bonuses:

National manpower modifier.png +10% National manpower modifier
Morale of armies.png +10% Morale of armies
War exhaustion.png −0.15 Monthly war exhaustion
Unjustified demands.png −50% Unjustified demands
Land maintenance modifier.png −50% Land maintenance modifier
Naval maintenance modifier.png −50% Naval maintenance modifier
Land force limit modifier.png +40% Land force limit modifier
Naval force limit modifier.png +40% Naval force limit modifier
Papal influence.png −100 Yearly papal influence

In addition it unlocks the ‘Spread the Revolution’ casus belli against remaining European empires, which reduces warscore acquisition cost by 50% and reduces diplomatic acquisition cost to 0. It also allows you to convert enemies to your religion even if it is considered heathen.

Thirdly, being a revolutionary republic allows you to pass the ‘Cult of Reason’ decision which will decrease technology cost by 40% for an average of 12 months. This decision can be used to spike up your technology, especially if stacked with neighbor bonuses, diplomatic investments modifier and abolish slavery modifier. If done properly, you can propel your diplomatic technology forward by 10 technologies or more. Therefore, if you are planning to go revolutionary, you can feel free to either invest your diplomatic points into development or culture conversion. However you need to be at stability -1 to be eligible to pass the decision. Remember that stability hits are significantly more costly as a republic. Likewise, keep in mind that the 12-months MTTH event that removes the cult of reason modifier gives 1 stability when assessing whether or not a disaster might trigger.

Finally, the revolutionary target cannot be the defender of the faith of any religion. Thus, it is a great way of losing the modifier in a situation where you probably have no longer need of it.

Becoming a revolutionary empire[edit]

To get the revolutionary empire government, you need to bring your republican tradition to 0 with the Revolutionary Republic government type by means other than re-electing your current ruler. Re-electing your current ruler while your republican tradition is below 20 will change your government to a republican dictatorship. Concretely, you should select all event options that reduce your republican tradition while being careful not to re-elect under 20 republican tradition. Eventually, you will become a revolutionary empire. This government does not only give you 10% land morale and 25% global manpower modifier but also has the best estates setup. Only 10% of your provinces have to be assigned to the clergy. The burghers, which demanded 20% of your territory under the revolutionary republic government, now necessitate 0% land. Effectively, the total output of your empire will increase by 5%.

Flags[edit]

Revolutionary flags replace a country's regular flag when they are the revolution target.

They are always tricolors, and the coloring for each nation is decided by the revolutionary_colors defined in their countries\xxx.txt file. If a country does not have any defined, then they will be randomly chosen. This is a list of nations with specified revolutionary flags.
